Alexander Technique for people with Parkinson's

Parkinson's makes everyday activities more difficult. The Alexander Technique teaches you how to employ thinking processes that allow the release of excessive muscular tension, consequently improving your balance and coordination of movement.

A randomised controlled study has shown that Alexander Technique lessons provide significant and sustained benefits for people with Parkinson's.

The benefits reported by study participants included:

  • they felt more positive/hopeful as a result of the lessons
  • felt less stressed/panic
  • improved self confidence
  • improved balance/posture
  • improved walking
  • improved speech
  • reduced tremor

The sustained benefits are mainly due to learning to apply Alexander skills in daily life.
