STAT News Collection
I have recently retired from teaching due to the lack of enquiries for lessons and the high cost of STAT membership and other teacher related expenses. I'm currently a non teaching STAT member (having taught AT from 1993 to 2022).
Necessitated by the Covid situation and the continuing cost of living crisis, I did so reluctantly.
AT Horse for Sale
I am selling a lovely beech horse (and giving away the saddle) as I no longer have space to store or use this. I am asking £80 ono plus courier costs. I have photos.
I also have a range of Alexander's and Alexander teachers' books for sale at a very reasonable price. Happy also to donate these to a training school for postage costs only. I can supply photos of the titles.
A new name
Am I alone in thinking The Alexander Technique a singularly dreadful name for what we do?
There are two problems: 'Alexander' and 'technique'.
New Government Regulations for Close Contact Work during Pandemic
I have been cautious about resuming face to face lessons but had done so recently just with one pupil (who had lessons with me before the pandemic). Having worn visor, face mask type II and been very careful I thought it was ok for me and the pupil. I had an enquiry from a new potential pupil and had just contacted him back to say yes, I will offer lessons now to new pupils. Then I checked the STAT website and read about a new government requirement.
AT Horse for Sale
Hi. I am downsizing and selling my lovely beech horse plus saddle for anyone who is being optimistic about seeing pupils in person. I am asking £80 plus courier charges. Open to offers. I do have a photo.
Teacher Website Hacked
My website was recently hacked - a site I've had for over 10 years having built it myself. It was hosted by Webfusion.
A new pupil informed me that she had tried to look at my website but was unable to access it. When I checked for myself (I look at it infrequently and don't often edit). On contacting Webfusion, they said it may have been hacked via the FTP that I use. Personally I think it just as likely it was due to exploitation of code on their server. After some research I found this is often achieved when webhosts don't update their software regularly.
Eutopia is NOT a 'retirement community'
I received my Statnews today and discovered that my article entitled "Eutopia - an Alexander community" had been given a sub-title not written by me (and mis-spelling my name) that suggested that I was envisioning a ”retirement community”. That is regrettable. The article clearly states:
"...I do not envisage a 'retirement community' even though the needs of an ageing popuation would need to be fully taken into account."
CNHC Membership
I decided after several years of membership of CNHC not to re-new this year. I have the impression that very few STAT teaching members have joined or having joined, retained membership of CNHC. I have a few reasons for leaving CNHC - one of which is that it seems rather pointless. Another being the very poor description they use to define the Alexander Technique.
