Mr Richard Brennan
In 1976 I developed painful back problems and sciatica while working long hours as a driving instructor. After trying various orthodox and complementary treatments, I found relief by having Alexander Technique lessons in 1984. They were so effective that I decided to train as a teacher at the STAT-approved Totnes school, qualifying in 1989.
I moved to Galway, Ireland, in 1997 where I run a busy private teaching practice. I founded the first Alexander Teacher Training College in Ireland in 1998 and co-founded and am past president of the Irish Society of Alexander Technique Teachers (ISATT). The training course is approved by the STAT and ISATT.
I travel around Europe and USA giving talks and courses on the Technique and have taught the Technique at many educational centres, including Galway University, Limerick University, Middlesex University, London, and Dartington College of Arts.
I am the author of six books on the Alexander Technique, translated into nine languages, and a book on the topic of stress. My latest book on back pain, Back in Balance was published in July 2013. I’ve written many articles on the Technique, have published a CD and have been featured in newspapers and magazines, including The Irish Times, The Sunday Tribune, The Irish Examiner, Cosmopolitan, Hello and Home and Country. I’ve appeared on BBC 1 & RTE 1 and been featured on BBC Radios 4 & 5 and on local radio around Ireland and the UK.
