Karen McCarthy
I have been involved with the AT for over 12 years, qualifying as a teacher 5 years ago.
I have experience in teaching the AT to individuals, small groups and in workshops. I am interested in how the AT supports us to enjoy all aspects of our lives with better balance and co-ordination and less discomfort and pain. I love exploring how working with our anatomy rather than against improves our 'use of self' and affects our mental and emotional lives. I run gneral introductory workshops as well as workshops on using the AT in gardening, walking and using hiking and Nordic walking poles. I have recently delivered a series of introductory workshops to students at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute(BIMM).
In other areas of my life I have worked in community development and community health development, in further education and in higher education as a senior university lecturer. I also worked for over 20 years as a therapeutic massage therapist. All these experiences and areas of interest have come together for me in the AT, which is about thinking and learning as well as experiencing our embodied selves differently.
I am currently taking a break from teaching.
