Beret Arcaya, born in New York, studied voice at Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music, later discovering first the Manuel Garcia vocal method and later the Alexander Technique, which shaped her unique approach to teaching. Certified in the Alexander Technique in 1981, she was a founding member of AmSAT and Spain’s APTAE.
She has performed and taught across Europe and Venezuela, and led Alexander Technique workshops for musicians at the Salzburg Easter Festival from 1992–1999. From 1988–2001, she taught Voice/Alexander in Madrid and later retrained with Walter and Dilys Carrington in London, completing further certification in 2005.
In 2015, she published a modern edition of The Complete Treatise on the Art of Singing (1847), Vol. and Vol. 2 by Manuel Garcia, integrating Alexander Technique insights. Her e-book, Understanding the Singing Voice, is available at www.habitandchoice.com.
