Malcolm has been teaching the Alexander Technique since 1984. He took Alexander lessons to help cope with the anxiety and tension experienced whilst learning to play the cello as an adult.
In 1982 he started his professional teacher training in London, England with Patrick Macdonald, one of the first people trained by Alexander himself ! After qualifying in 1984, he spent several more years in London, establishing a teaching practice as well as continuing his professional development with many first generation teachers.
Malcolm also learned how to apply the Alexander Technique to sport, particularly running, where he still competes as a master’s athlete. Malcolm has also co-authored two books : Master The Art of Running and Master the Art of Working Out.
Over the years Malcolm has lectured at many university music departments including Dal, McGill, Uni de Montreal and SUNY Plattsburgh, where he taught for 10 years. He also worked for over 10 years at the St Andrew’s Opera Workshop and at L’Atelier Lyrique de l’Opera de Montreal with many of Canada’s brightest young opera singers.
