Curiosity led me to the Alexander Technique in 1976. After my first lesson my body felt light, easy and as if everything was in the right place so I continued with weekly lessons for some years before undertaking the 3-year training course in Totnes. I qualified as an Alexander Teacher in the summer of 1986 and have taught since then in London and Kent. In my life I have also been a secretary, a school teacher, a textile artist, a shop owner, a parent and now a grandparent, among other things!
For the past 13 years I have worked for the NHS as part of the Community Chronic Pain Team in East Kent and have developed a special interest in Hypermobility. We see an increasing number of patients who have HSD and I have attended Hypermobility Master Classes for Professionals in Kent, run by Rheumatologist Dr Philip Bull who specialises in Hypermobility and has an in depth knowledge of the subject.
During COVID, I set up AT teaching online for the NHS and that is how I am currently teaching. I am a passionate believer in hands-on work, and look forward to returning to face to face work, but have been very pleasantly surprised by how much I have enjoyed teaching online, how helpful my pupils have found it, and the excellent results we've had since I started in August 2020.
I have recently reduced my hours on the NHS to 2.5 days in order to develop my private practice.
