An Introduction to the Alexander Technique

The September 2017 introductory course at the Wilmslow Guild is now closed.

Liz Hulse will be teaching an 8 week introduction at the Wilmslow Guild on Friday mornings in April 2018 along similar lines- see details here.

My next Wilmslow Guild course will start on 19th September 2018 and will run for five consecutive Wednesday evenings, 7.30 - 9.30 p.m. The course will be along the same lines as the September 2017 course, see details here.

The course will consist of an introduction to the principles and the practice of the AT, although it should also be helpful to more experienced students. Through explanation, demonstration and individual experience you will be guided to an understanding of the theory and the method of the AT.

As part of the course you will also be offered some individual attention to help you to discover how you usually (habitually) go about your everyday activities and you will be assisted to discover how you could improve these patterns of movement. The tutor will be assisted by several other qualified teachers.

Although there is a practical component to the classes, this will not be physically demanding and the course is suitable for people at any level of fitness. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

The Alexander Technique helped me release tension which I was previously unaware that I had, in particular when standing at the tee. In the past my mind would have been elsewhere and my thoughts made me more tense. Applying the Technique I discovered relaxing the jaw, feeling my socks in my shoes, sensing the ground beneath my feet and just being there really helped. My drive distance improved and I cut 5 shots in one game.
