From a background in music, I have worked in various areas, from the Ambulance Service to management in a retail business. I was initially attracted to the Alexander Technique by the enhanced well-being, freedom and increased personal potential that it made possible. I went on to qualify as a teacher of the Technique in 1993.
In addition to my private teaching practice, I am a member of staff at St. Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh and have taught Alexander Technique there since 1994, including International Summer Schools for both pianists and singers.
For four years I was Assistant Chair of ATI, one of the main worldwide professional organisations for Alexander Technique Teachers, and for ten years I represented ATI in the negotiation process to establish a Self Regulatory Body for the Alexander Technique teaching profession in the UK.
