Like many Alexander Technique teachers, I was led to the Technique because of pain. I went through the merry-go-round of pain clinics, physiotherapy and other therapies for my severe chronic back pain, before finding that it was the gentle, detailed, thoughtful approach of Alexander Technique that would really help me long term. I qualified from the Brighton Alexander Technique College in 2016, and I consider myself lucky to have had world class training in how to teach the technique as a practical skill for life.
I think my previous career as a vet gives me a unique take on the Alexander Technique. I have a questioning scientific mind, so I’m always educating myself on pain science and postural and movement studies, so that what I do aligns with up to date science.
I run Back to Active, which is based in Norwich, but I can also offer courses in other locations. I teach in a practical, down to earth way, to small groups and individuals, and I specialise in intensive courses. I offer home visits in the Norwich area and I am available evenings and weekends.
Often people think that reduced mobility and aches and pains are inevitable as they get older. And some very young people are told to just “live with” pain or mobility issues, without being shown how to. But with a little investment of time and energy much of this is preventable, and I hope to give people the skills to maintain themselves in a good state long term.
