Jane has a background in the performing arts & psychology & has studied, performed & taught dance & movement disciplines that have developed from the premise that the body is a “psycho-physical-spiritual unity”. She lived in New York City & studied Ideo-kinesis, Body Mind Centering, Kinetic Awareness, Voice, Acting & the Alexander Technique. Later she worked with Deborah Hay & was invited to become a founding member of The Deborah Hay Dance Company. In 1984 she completed her MFA in Acting & Performance at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University.
On returning to Australia Jane lectured in Kinesiology & Kinetic Awareness at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in the School of Dance. She studied the Alexander Technique with Erika Whittaker & qualified as a teacher in 1989 trained by John & Carolyn Nicholls. Jane was a founding member of Dancehouse and undertook an internship in Dance Movement Therapy at Princeton House under the supervision of Barbara Harrison. Jane’s Dance Movement Therapy Diploma was was completed under the direction of Dr Marcia Leventhal in 2004 with the International Dance Therapy Institute of Australia (IDTIA). She completed her degree of Master of Psychoanalytic Studies with the School of Psychology and Psychiatry at Monash University.
She currently works in private practice as a counselling psychologist utilising the Alexander Technique, Dance Movement Therapy and movement re-integration modalities.
