I first had Alexander lessons as a teenager when suffering with regular headaches. My sister-in-law suggested that it could be posture related, (I had the typical teenage slump!) so off I went to my first course of AT lessons. Within a few months I’d become skilful enough to manage my headaches once and for all. It was 10 years later that I went on to train at Brighton Alexander Training Centre, graduating in1999.
Alexander Technique is a skill rather that a therapy; I get a huge amount of satisfaction knowing that I am passing on a life skill, which encourages personal responsibility and an aptitude for embodied mindfulness.
This skill for life can be “added on” to any pastime; it sits particularly well with yoga. Both teachers and beginners find that bringing this mindful technique into their yoga practice gives it a gentle and healing quality. I teach weekly online classes especially designed for yoga teachers, helping them to find the most body-kind and conscious way to teach their students.
Over the years I have enjoyed working with riders either struggling with pain or simply interested in improving communication with their horse. Teaming up with riding instructors who are also proficient in equine biomechanics makes for a perfect combination.
Most of my work is helping people to become free from pain, so that they can enjoy the life they wish. This work is life changing to mind, body and spirit and I’m grateful to be the facilitator of the positive changes that come!
