Sean Carey

Dr Sean Carey PhD started having lessons in the Alexander Technique when he was studying social sciences at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne as part of his rehabilitation recovery from a motorcycle accident in which his right leg and foot were badly broken. He became so fascinated with the technique that he went on to train as a teacher qualifying from Alexander Teaching Associates in London in 1986.
Sean is co-author of four critically acclaimed books on the technique -- 'The Alexander Technique' with John Nicholls; 'Explaining the Alexander Technique' and 'Personally Speaking' with Walter Carrington; and 'Alexander Technique: the Ground Rules' with Marjory Barlow.He is also author of the recently published 'Alexander Technique in Everyday Activity: Improve how you sit, stand, walk, work and run'. The book has been featured in the 'Irish Times' and 'Women's Running' and 'TalkBack' magazines, and praised by Dr Roger Neighbour, former President of the RCGP.

Sean has worked on five Society of the Alexander Technique (STAT)-approved teacher training courses in London, and has given Alexander lessons to people from many walks of life, including doctors,dentists osteopaths, academics, journalists, lawyers, software engineers, actors, musicians and runners. He is very interested in the malcoordination that underlies many musculoskeletal issues -- chronic (lower and upper) back, neck and shoulder pain -- and how people can address them by changing their everyday movements.
