" Alison is a wonderful teacher of Alexander Technique.
She has helped me personally and I have absolutely no
hesitation in recommending her to my patients.  She has a
very gentle but extremely effective approach and I have
seen results both in myself and in patients who have been
helped by her skill. "

Practising the Alexander technique has enabled me to recover some of the ease of movement I enjoyed before I sustained back and neck injuries. It has also made me aware of how to conduct my posture over the course of a normal day without incurring any further restrictions on my movement. The technique has enabled me to work through my injuries rather than around them. As a result, I have been able to return to employment working in my local authority, which has allowed me to get back to the routine of a working day.

I can say without any doubt that discovering the Alexander Technique has totally changed my life. I used to have back pain all the time and lots of other aches and pains. I have scoliosis in my spine and assumed things would just get worse as I got older.

Over the three years that I have been having AT lessons with Alison I have become pain free. Also I have learned how to use and control my body in everyday tasks to ensure that little twinges do not become nagging pains that stop me from riding and gardening which are things I really enjoy.

I had always thought I had one leg longer than the other. I have learned that my legs are the same length and it was the use of my body which made them appear not to be. Once Alison got me straight I haven’t looked back!

After many years of increasingly draining and limiting lower back pain and broken sleep, which I was told was caused by muscle spasms, I honestly thought that I’d never have an undisturbed night again let alone workout in a gym regularly and get back into shape. I had previously enjoyed years of high impact aerobics and kick boxing training so it was a result of bad luck and self infliction I thought.

I was then referred to Alison Little and after a year learning the Alexander Technique with her combined with personal training I have become a totally different person.

I get a whole night’s sleep regularly.

I can lift heavy shopping bags without repecussions.

I can survive a 9 hour intercontinental flight without wishing I’d stayed at home.

I can bend over to pick up the post without worrying that I’m not going to be able to get up again.

Yes, its certainly been hard work but to date its certainly been worth it and every penny!

As a piano teacher, oboist and singer I had been aware of the Alexander technique , but it was not until I found I was having problems with my voice that I decided to contact Alison for help.

During the previous couple of years I had been finding my voice was becoming weaker until I was becoming hoarse after a day’s teaching and was unable to sing in my various choirs, as I would completely lose my voice. Having been seen by my doctor and an ENT specialist my troubles were put down to acute tension, misuse of the voice and anxiety.

I decided to contact Alison to see if she could help and she was immediately able to show me how much strain and tension I was putting into my body and how this culminated in my vocal problems. With regular visits to Alison I have learnt how to use my body without this tension and, after believing I would have to stop work and my musical life I am now having no problems with my voice, feel more able to cope with stressful situations and am enjoying all my musical activities.

I was becoming very anxious before seeing Alison and I am extremely grateful for her expertise and kindness which has given me back my professional and musical life.

As a Riding Instructor who owns a Riding Centre my voice is my main source of income . When I developed asthma as a side effect from a prescription drug ,I was in real trouble. Instead of getting the help I needed I tried to carry on -not easy when you are working near the M27! I ended up in a state of collapse.

Luckily for me,a friend told me about Alison and I started having lessons . These addressed some imbalances in my body that had existed for years and as I got stronger so did my voice .Alison’s approach is very individual and her voice work is very empowering ,so much so that I have been brave enough to take up Folk Singing-unaccompanied !!
The Technique is particularly applicable to horse riders who may carry tensions and imbalances onto the backs of their horses - with unpleasant results! I have recommended several of my pupils to Alison and I cannot praise her work highly enough.                                                                                        Carol Boulton MABRS  Riding Instructor

With a long history of back problems I've tried most things. The Alexander technique is the most effective for me because it gives me control over my back. I have loose ligaments so although supple I can have too much movement like ‘ a river without banks’. Lessons in the Alexander Technique have re established some banks so I can move within useful boundaries and joints and muscles can work together.
I have a lesson with Alison once a month to keep my back (and the rest of me) in good order. On the odd occasions when my back has gone into spasm and been a real problem Alison has been wonderful at guiding me out of trouble.
