Since 1998 I have been teaching the Alexander Technique, mainly in the Southampton and New Forest Area. I teach adolescents and adults in private practice and in Higher Education, Southampton Solent University and Further and Adult Education. My interest is to facilitate every individual's growth for human grace, whatever the person suffers from or brings with him/her.
I give presentations to professionals, charities and patients forums and present at conferences. I offer introductory group workshops. I also accompany pregnant women and their families/partners through pregnancy, labour and birth applying the Alexander Technique as a Doula. I work alongside NHS medical staff and social services, if required.
My research interest lies in physical contact work with the principles of the Alexander Technique in education, performance, music and psycho-physical medical conditions, particularly mental and emotional health as well as neurological conditions such as Dystonia. I participaated in the ASPEN study and the ATEAM study on chronic back pain.
One client expresses her experience:
''The support my partner and I received from Doris throughout my pregnancy, the birth and beyond has truly been extraordinary. I feel really fortunate that the birth of our son was a wonderful experience and remember feeling protected, especially when Doris stood up for my best interests when liasing with the hospital staff. Her calm and attentive presence reassured us both."
