New Mind-Body Study Group
F M Alexander described his discoveries in the language and understanding of his era, but in essence his insights are timeless and have much in common with deeply influential ideas and practices found throughout human history: the "non-doing" of Lao Tse and the early Taoists; the mindfulness of Zen Buddhism, the energy flow of Qigong and Tai Chi Chuan, the capacity of the mind to suspend action (John Locke), the power of attention (William James). More recently neuroscientists are discovering more about embodied cognition, neuroplasticity and intentional inhibition - all related to the mind-body connection.
In this ten week course we will study both theoretically and practically the key elements of the mind-body connection in - but not limited to - the Alexander Technique.
